Real Estate Appraiser Trainee

Iowa Appraisal is looking to hire a full-time Real Estate Appraiser Trainee to join our real estate appraisal team. Candidates should possess proficient analytical skills and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication ability. Experience appraising or reviewing appraisals of commercial and/or agricultural properties is a plus, but not required. This position will primarily focus on commercial real estate appraisal but may include agricultural appraisal work.

Appraiser responsibilities include:

  • Assist and train in the determination of value and evaluation of commercial and agricultural real estate.

  • Conduct market research, gather data and apply analytical techniques to subject properties/defined problems.

  • As an assistant and trainee, work with direction and supervision.

  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks as directed by supervisor.

  • Contribute to and support the work of the commercial real estate appraisal staff.

  • Coordinate with all office staff for document production.

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Desired skills/experience:

  • Background in agriculture or agricultural work is helpful, but not mandatory.

  • No appraisal experience required but would accept candidates with past appraisal experience, Certified General certification, or Certified Residential certification.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

  • Excellent skills in research methods, organization, written and verbal communication, math and computer applications.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with and engage in positive working relationships with entire staff, clients and other business contacts.

  • Able to work under pressure of deadlines and tight schedules. Routine may be interrupted by special requests.

  • Must have means of transportation for site inspections and out of office research, be able to travel and participate in activities outside of the office

Location: 1707 High Street, Des Moines, IA 50309. Work will be primarily in office for the first year. Employee may transition to mix of work from home and work from office after first year (hybrid), if desired.

Salary level: Salary will initially be fixed, transitioning to split fee within one year

Status: Full time, permanent

Work authorization: Must be eligible to work in the U.S.; Iowa Appraisal does not sponsor employment visas
