The online auction market for Iowa land was the topic for my recent conversation with Mason Holvoet of Steffes Group.

There was not enough activity to test the market this week. The extended forecast indicates there will be a good run of weather. I imagine a lot of planting will get done.

Auction volume jumped significantly in April - the second highest since 2018. Volatility in the stock market has helped move higher-quality tracts of land. Brent Barnett and I discuss this and more on Brownfield Ag News.

Monona County tops the market with a sale at $14,000/acre. Looking forward into March, auction activity is slowing down. Market conditions are very stable; I’ve seen decent prices with very few “no sales” in the first two months of 2025.

Guthrie County takes top honors this week with a sale at $16,100/acre. We finally have some warm weather in the forecast. Calving season is underway, and I wish everyone 100% livability calving.

Sioux County tops the market this week at $17,200/acre. There’s lots of cold weather in the forecast this week. Cattle prices are setting all-time record highs right now.

Top honors go to Plymouth County with a sale at $22,600/acre. Snow is in the forecast this week. We need precipitation, anyway it comes.
